Clown loaches and Amano shrimps

Hi All,

Still trying to figure which tank would be best to locate my Clown
Loaches to....obviously they would be happier in the bigger tank (6foot)
rather than the 4 foot (but could still be accomodated there easily)...

The 6 footer has Amano shrimps in it. I remember someone passing a
comment that the Clowns would eat the shrimps. Anyone have any ideas on
this?

TIA
Gill

I would put my best, most interesting and most colorful fish in the 6' tank.

I can't help you there but you can always remove the shrimp to the smaller
tank.

TIA
Gill

If the clown can catch it, it will eat it.

You know the rules, Gill. ;-) If a loach (or any predatory fish) can
catch a critter and fit part of it into its mouth, it's food. Shrimp
are tasty so fish will try twice as hard. I used to add inexpensive
ghost shrimp to a tank with clown loaches, angelfish, keyholes, and
other peaceful cichlids. Slowly but surely the shrimp disappeared.

However, I think you should put the clowns in the 6 foot tank. You
really cherish your clowns and the 6 foot tank is a better home.
They're much longer lived than Amanos anyway. Maybe you can trap the
shrimp and move them to the 4 foot tank.

Next question then...how to catch 4(?) Amano shrimps in a tank with
multiple hiding places? There were 4 but I've only seen 2 recently.

The 6 foot tank seems to be rapidly becoming a Rainbow tank (plus
cories, 4 Neons and 2 DGs)....the other tank is in the same room near
the dining table.....

Try a soda bottle trap baited with any food you've see the shrimp
eating. Mine relish shrimp pellets (rather ironic).

You may have to release a few fish.

Looks like a neat trick...only problem is I've never seen my shrimps eat
anything other than some algae on the back of the tank....I suppose that
they might venture in there on their own......my money would be on the
Pandas falling for it first :-)

Hi and welcome to the group :-)

Every Clown Loach troupe I've had bar these three would eat anything
greedily...they would be right up there at the top trying to steal the
food straight from my hands....These guys are a different
matter...they've certainly demolished the snails and grub around at the
bottom of the tank but are not outgoing at all - I'm hoping that moving
them to one of the other tanks will improve this...

What fish do you have other than the Clowns? (I must admit CLs are one
of my favourite fish)

Gill
