Silicone Grease
Hello,
I went to my local hardware store looking for food grade silicone grease, but the owner only had dielectric grease. The packaging says tha it should be kept away from the eyes, children and so on, and when you swallow it, better get you ID and start walking towards the cementary. One of the sale people apparently worked in an "aquarium store" and thinks that dielectric grease is very safe etc. Does anyone have tried that, or does anybody know waht grease is safe for the tank? Thank you Yuriy |

I would look into the food service industry for the type of lubricants used with commercial meat slicers. I'll see if I can find a vendor. schnauzer |

It's sold in plastic tins about 2" in diameter and 1/2" thick. It's safe enough to use on things people drink from. Lowes sells it, if there's one in your area. The stuff I use is "Plumber's Silicone Grease." It's made by Radiator Specialty Co., Charlotte, NC. Any decent hardware store will stock it, probably along with faucet, spigot and mixer valve repair kits. What do you want to grease in your tank? -K |

What do you want to grease in your tank? Probably some rubber/silicone gaskets in his water pumps. |

Kelsey,
I bought two used sea swirls, but they are pretty beat up. I had to order a motor and the shaft needs to be lubricated. Thank you Yuriy |

My instruction sheet on my CSS skimmers says to simnply use a light
coat of petrolatum (Vasel;ine) to coat Oring, and my papers on my other pump (Sequence) says the same thing to use a light coat of petrolatum to coat all orings such as is found on strainer baskets...... I have a large tube of Krytox grease.......but finding it locally may be a bit hard not to say EXPENSIVE..........I got mine at a DROM sale dirt cheap, as it was past its shelf life. Now that may make a difference for what that grease is intended for, but for a louosy fish tank and associated equipment its certaily better than anything your gonna find locally or even order on line to buy and use. Its main use is in liquid oxygen systems, under high pressure............I feel confortable with using it.....as its been just fine for a long while now.............
