Eheim 2217/prefilter/55 gallon plumbing

.. . In article , says... Hi All, Just set up a new Eheim 2217 on my 55 gallon tank and I'm wondering how to connect the Eheim prefilter I purchased separately. The "upside down J" intake tube that comes with the filter does not reach to the bottom of the tank when connected to the pre-filter. The pre-filter, OTOH, comes with two tubes, one straight about 10" long, another narrower with a curve at the end, which is too small for the wide intake tubing of the 2217. So there is no clearly obvious way that I see to connect the prefilter using existing plumbing parts. Before I go cutting into things I thought I'd ask here how the prefilter is supposed to connect. Thanks for any input, Howard I use a eheim prefilter with my 2215 by inserting the J shaped piece (that came with the filter itself) into the base tube of the prefilter, the one with the rubber coupler. But I think the base tube of the prefilter might be the same size as the J tube of your filter. The only solution I can see would be to join the base tube of the prefilter and the J tube that came with your filter with a 1" or 2" piece of the hose that came with your filter. You might have to cut down the J tube though so it wont stick out of the top of the tank too much. I'm not sure if this would work, as I'm not sure of the hose, and tubing sizes of the 2217, but it's the best plan I could come up with using your existing materials. Hope this helps, good luck. Josh I think the base tube of the prefilter might be the same size as the J tube of your filter Correct, hence the problem.... Ok. I cut a small piece of the 10" piece that came with the prefilter, put that in the prefilter, connected it to the J-tube with a 2" piece of tubing and the Eheim is prefiltering as we speak. Good stuff. Thanks much, Howard |
