New Above Ground Pond
 

Check out my new above ground outdoor tank thingy. It's been goin for about
a month now ... algae bloomed and has died down in the last week. It's
pretty cool.

It's nice but it's only 150 to 160g. This is large enough for perhaps 6 to
8 adult goldfish which reach 10 to 12" in length easily. Koi can reach 3'
in length - YES, *THREE FEET* in length! You need a minimum of 900g to
1000g for 2 or 3 koi when adult, and they grow fast if they're healthy and
well cared for. Please do some koi research online and try and see of the
store will take them back and give you credit. It's hard to believe anyone
would even sell you one koi with such a small pond.

Don;t let the ignorant individual that replied by the name of Koi Lo
with a burr under her saddle dissuade you on what your doing. It looks
good in my opinion, but I would personally try and return the koi at
least. They may do fine this year, but what about next year.What are
the winters like in your area, 12 inches deep is not deep for over
wintering in most areas unless your n zone 9 or 10 possibly in lower
Zone 8 B.

I like your constructin methods and ingenuity, in finding more than
one way to skin a cat. Can't dig a hole make it on the
surface......good thinking. Have yu thought about adding more
height.

Just give the though of returning the koi some consideration, even if
you have to give them back to the shop at the end of fall or so if
your winters are bad.........enjoy them until then and have fun.....

The fish will come indoors in the winter :) ... i have several unused tanks.

Planning next year to go bigger ... this was really easy to build.

If you're going to keep all those koi and GF then plan on at least a 2000 to
3000g or larger well filtered pond.
