Angels Dieing
 

I recently bought 3 very small angel fish. They seemed happy for a few days
but today I noticed that they were all dead. I did lower my water temp from
78 to 75 in the last few days but that has been my only change. All the
other Angels and community fish look fine. My water is excellent too with
low Nitrates, 6.8 PH and medium hard water. Anyone have an opinion?

What are your other water parameters? For fish to die that suddenly,
I'd suspect something serious. Was the tank cycled before the angels
were introduced? What size tank, and how many fish?

I have a 55 gallon tank with 20 fish but more then half are small Tetras. I
have a few Gouramies, 2 Mollies, a Cory, Plecus Catfish, 2 Eels, a Sword
Tail and one Pleco. Two of the Angels were from one tank and the other one
was from another store. These Angles are about the size of a quarter. I
noticed that some of them were missing eyeballs but once fish die the other
fish may have been picking on them. My tank is fully cycled and I didn't
touch the filter. My Nitrates are under 10ppm and my PH is around 6.80-7.
The only thing that I changed was the temp. My other 3 angels are bigger
and seem fine. I noticed that some of my Rosy Barbs had been picking on the
smaller Angels and I moved them to another tank 2 days ago. This is very
strange.

First of all, why did you lower the temp? Angels like it warm.....78-80*f is
best for them.
You say youlowered it in a few days...I hope that meant it took a few days, as
a drastic change could kill..temp shock.
You mention the other Angelfish are fine. Are these in the same tank?
If so...how large are they compaired to the ones that died? Do not include fins
when measuring the width of the body.
Did the ones that die act weird before dying, such as hanging at the surface,
head up, heavy slime coat...or jerking?

I lowered the temp from 78 to 75. I did this over a few days. The Angels
that died where the size of a quarter. The ones that lived are more mature.
One angle is 3.5" from tail to lip and the other two are about 2.250" from
tail to lip. I also didn't notice any behavioral changes and saw them all
eat too.

That's not too unusual. I went through a similar experience recently. Bought
a bunch of angels, most of which were fine, but three died after a few
days for no obvious reason. The stress of being caught, transported, and put
into different water in their new tank likely has something to do with it.
I also find that angels can be very timid initially, until they get used to
their
new environment. In turn, that can make them stop eating (or stop them
from getting any food due to other fish being quicker and more aggressive).
Of course, if they are stressed already and then don't get any food, that's
not likely to make them better...

This also has happened to me. My water conditions were fine. What I did
after that was when I buy a small Angelfish I keep them in another tank,
And feed them 4 times a day, small amounts. I don't have gravel in that
tank and vacuum the bottom every day. when they are big enough I put
them in the community tank. I have noticed that larger angelfish will
pick on smaller angelfish and grab the food. So far I have no losses.
Even other larger fish will grab the food.
