Possible Copper contamination?
 

Hi all, I just got my latest mail order fishy delivery yesterday: 1 yellow
tang 4 nassarius snails & 5 turbo snails.

However there was a big notice about the tangs water having levels of copper
in them!!! Whoops some of the tangs water escaped whilst I was introducing
him into the tank. I have no idea how much copper the supplier doses so
cannot say how much escaped.

In my tank (main tank 150 USG, sump 50USG) i have currently 1 pair occelaris
clowns, atlantic anenome, lawnmower blennie, clown gobie ,8 hermits, 11
turbo snails, 4 nassarius snails and a yellow tang. The tank has a refugium
in the sump with caulerpa bed & 20W daylight NO tube, the main tank has
45lbs of live rock (not enough for when i stock more i know but it's nearly
£12 a kilo here which is nearly $24!) 150W MH & 2 58W NO flourecents
actinic/daylight - 1 polyp rock, 1 green carpet xenia 5 little mushrooms.

Nitrate 10-15 PPM
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0

How would that sort of contamination affect the inverts (or would it at all)
in that kind of volume? I have noticed the hermits are not as active today
and some of the polyps on the zoanthids are not fully extended but all the
turbo snails are fine.

Any suggestions would be great.

I would say the amount will be negligible.
Cooper concentration allowed for fish is higher than for inverts,
BUT if you had a cup or two of water which does not kill the fish
diluted in 200 gallons of water in your tank, the solution of
copper will become very, very weak and negligible.

You can put some fresh carbon in the sump to filter it out.
