Good article on Bettas in TFH
Finally a good article on Bettas in Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine.
(Koi-Lo...please read it. It basically says every thing I have been saying over and over that you claim is my own opinion, and not fact. Learn something and give your bettas the proper care they need!) It's in the September issue, pg. 86. The only thing it lacked was the proper pronunciation of Betta ("bet-uh"). Some highlights: Water temp...80*f Ideal set up is planted tank (not a bowl or vase). Vases are "sorely inadequate habitats". Minimum volume for a single Betta is 1g, preferably 2 or 3 gallons. Room temps are not adequate, unless the room temp is at tropical temps (high 70's-low80's). Their ability to breathe air and therefore not asphyxiate in a small amount of water often condems them to a lingering death from ammonia poisoning in a vase or bowl. So folks, please get those poor Bettas out of the vases or bowls! They shouldn't be there! And Koi-Lo...don't argue. It only shows your ignorance of proper Betta husbandry. |

"Tynk" wrote in message ups.com... Finally a good article on Bettas in Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine. (Koi-Lo...please read it. Post the article here. I don't get that magazine anymore. It basically says every thing I have been saying over and over that you claim is my own opinion, and not fact. I didn't say it was not FACT. I said there are other ways to keep bettas than in filtered, heated tanks. Learn something and give your bettas the proper care they need!) Maybe you need to learn that bettas do very well and live long lives in other than heated and filtered tanks. It's in the September issue, pg. 86. The only thing it lacked was the proper pronunciation of Betta ("bet-uh"). Some highlights: Water temp...80*f And mine live over 4 1/2 years in less than that. Ideal set up is planted tank (not a bowl or vase). Ideal, not mandatory. Vases are "sorely inadequate habitats". Vases? Vases are for flowers?!?!?! Minimum volume for a single Betta is 1g, preferably 2 or 3 gallons. Room temps are not adequate, unless the room temp is at tropical temps (high 70's-low80's). My bettas never read that. Their ability to breathe air and therefore not asphyxiate in a small amount of water often condems them to a lingering death from ammonia poisoning in a vase or bowl. As though ammonia doesn't form in a gallon tank or bowl. To avoid ammonia you rinse the bowl and it's gravel in dechlored water and use a small plant which isn't rinsed at all. I learned this from a NY breeder long ago. I use water lettuce which stays small indoors. The nitrifying bacteria are not killed off using this technique. Few breeders can afford (or have the room for) hundreds of heated planted tanks for their bettas. So folks, please get those poor Bettas out of the vases or bowls! They shouldn't be there! And Koi-Lo...don't argue. It only shows your ignorance of proper Betta husbandry. And your ignorance of bettas and other ways to keep them........... for years! ;-) -- KL.... Aquariums since 1952. Did you not see the part of about not arguing the points koi-lo, and that it will only show your ignorance of proper Betta husbandry....aparently not, as you just did it again. LOL Read for yourself: tfhmagazine.com After reading it, you should no more arguments. Oh...and the comment how your Bettas never read it...how ridiculous. Maybe I'll start posting how Goldies are just fine to be kept in a gallon bowl... We all know it's not true, but hey..people do it every day. Just stop arguing. Even when given the proper care in black and white, you STILL argue it. How stupid! |

Even when given the proper care in black and white, you STILL argue it. How stupid! I checked their website and they still have the June issue up. When clicking "next month's Issue" it doesn't come up yet. However, walk into a shop and pick the darn thing up. Pg 86 of the September issue. Again, don't bother arguing. Also, I have NO ignorance when it comes to Bettas. That's quite obvious. I also refuse to keep them in horrible conditions such as those tiny, room temp bowls. Please stop comparing how a breeder keeps their Bettas. You cannot compare that situation with a permanent home. The growing fish are in small quarters for short periods of time (few months) compared to years. You're being silly when you try to compare the two. They are two completely different situations. |

LOL LOL, and your IGNORANCE that bettas do not require heated filtered tanks to thrive. LOL Read for yourself: tfhmagazine.com So? Mine live well over 4 years without filtration and heaters. After reading it, you should no more arguments. Oh...and the comment how your Bettas never read it...how ridiculous. LOL.... like your claims bettas require heated tanks? LOL Maybe I'll start posting how Goldies are just fine to be kept in a gallon bowl... Goldies aren't bettas LOL....... We all know it's not true, but hey..people do it every day. LOL... and GF is dead in 48 hours while the betta lives for YEARS in gallon (and less) bowls. LOL Just stop arguing. So just stop arguing and admit there are other ways to keep bettas healthy and thriving than heated filtered tanks. Even when given the proper care in black and white, you STILL argue it. How stupid! Proper care? Sure - and I would love to live in a 10 room mansion instead of a 3 bedroom house. How stupid YOU are to troll me like you do when anyone who's kept and raised bettas don't keep each one in a heated filtered tank. LOL -- KL.... Aquariums since 1952. Please go out and pick up the September issue of TFH. I dare you. I double dog dare you to read it! LOL Sweetie you are the troll. You claim untrue info constantly, then when somebody corrects it you call them a troll. If you dislike me correcting you, stop posting bullcrap about Betta care. Until you can get it right, let the knowledgeable folks handle it. Your claim that you've kept them in unheated or small bowls for years simply means you have abused them that much longer. It doesn't mean it's right to do so. You will go off on anyone who keeps Goldies in bad conditions, yes you house Bettas in poor conditions. You are a total hypocrite and anyone can see that. I wonder, do you realize that when folks pick up the Sept. issue of TFH and read pg. 86, every one of those humans will know you are a buffoon! = )~ Again, if you dislike my correcting you, stop spreading your incorrect garbage. Until then, I will continue to spread the truth. The facts. Not my personal opinion. |
