Placing Seaweed in a tank
I have 2 grazing fish that requires me to place seaweed in the tank just
about everyday. I use a simple clip that i weigh down using a small piece of LR. Does anyone have a good tip for placing seaweed in the tank that doesn't require my arm to get wet? any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks |

I have 2 grazing fish that requires me to place seaweed in the tank Are we talking about dried nori from Japanese grocery or live seaweed ? I feed often dried nori to my hepatus tang and I do not use clip. I use scisors to cut 1/4" wide stripes (or if scisors are not around I just tear off with my fingers) and feed them directly to fish which is tamed already and eats from my hand like a little puppy :-) I hold 1 or 2 pieces between fingers and dip it half in the water. Fish notices this and swims to my hand - then quickly devours the algae sucking them into the mouth like a pieces of seaweed spaghetti :-) This routine is only for dried seaweed - I want to prevent it getting sucked by the overflow and end up in the sump... If I feed live seaweed bunch I usually just toss it into the tank and let is float on its own. Fish is able to eat it piece by piece. |

I tie a clip to a string and just hang it from a hook in the hood into the
tank. It floats around approx 5 inches into the tank where my tangs kill the nori. When its done I just pull up the sting and out it comes :)_ |

You can tie the clip to your algae magnet.

Can I use a lead fishing weight to hold the clip down in the water and use
attach a fishing line to the clip to remove the clip? Will the lead weight cause and damage to my eco system? |

So what would make a good weight for the clip?

You could also make yourself a portland cement weight.
I've made all kinds of weights out of portland cement. Wayne Sallee Wayne's Pets Wayne Sallee wrote on 7/31/2006 5:38 PM: A small rock. No, but you should be able to find weights coated with epoxy that will be safe. George Patterson Coffee is only a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to your slightly older self. |
