Removing zoanthids from rocks

I have a 6 year old 150 gallon reef tank with one corner of the tank
lit by MH, and the remainder of the tank with VHO. I am trying to get
some very nice SPS growing under the MH, but I have limited areas
available to place new corals. Some areas under MH light are covered
with zoanthids which have spread. Is there any risk of simply scraping
off the zoanthids from areas where I plan to put SPS. I know that
zoanthids can secrete toxins, and I am concerned that it may adversely
affect the tank by scraping off large areas of zoanthids.

You could trade the rock with the zoas to the LFS for more rock and maybe
store credit.
