Any reduction in electrical costs (and heat generation) is very welcome. If I am interpreting the article correctly, the "useable" spectrum appears to reduce before the 11-year lifespan, but even so, the life is much longer than MH or fluorescent bulbs. The cost of the equipment is terrifying, but will probably reduce if other manufacturers start to market similar units. Regards, Fishnut. |

I was disappointed in that the article did not show any
real world results, ie "let's see the tank that the light was on". If he has had it on his reef tank all these years, then why not show some pictures of the tank? Wayne you need to get out of that closet you live in.. These lights have been out ohhhh
about a month or so other than some test lamps. How are you going to get anything in that time. Where does it say anything about being on his tank for years. Again, as usually, you never read the dam article. Again, Wayne, talking out of his butt end. In the last year you are becoming more and more sick with you ass'9 remarks and comments. Sorry. You don't really help all that much anymore you just like arguing . You must have missed this "Joy Meadows mentioned in a recent conversation that she had discontinued use of a chiller after replacing her metal halide lamps with a Solaris lighting system..Ms. Meadows is no stranger to reef aquaria, as those who know her can attest. " Being that she is a well know coral farmer I kinda' thing she knows what she is doing and much more so than you Wayne by a long shot..just so yah know. Some people in this hobby, unlike you, take their own time and spend their own money testing things for us, so we know how they work or what they do. Then they write it up, so maybe one can maybe learn something about. it and make a choose. Both Danna and Sanjay have test most of the bulbs and reflectors in this hobby for us. It should be obvious, to anyone with common sense, that a person could never test all the bulbs and lighting systems that are out on their own tank for results. They tell us what that do and how they work and what we might expect. It is called learning Wayne, from others, something you know little about. Wayne, when it comes to understanding light and light over a reef tank or a reef and the long term captive care of corals with lighting fixtures, you could not hold a candle to Danna Riddle........just so you know. Where are your tanks pics ? Why don't you give us some to look at.? -- Boomer If You See Me Running You Better Catch-Up Former US Army Bomb Technician (EOD) Member; IABTI, NATEODA, WEODF, ISEE & IPS Want to talk chemistry ? You need to look at in a different frame of "light" :-) Pricey, yes but much more cost effective in the long run if you are planning on keeping a reef tanks for some time. . Don't forget these lights also have dimmers and you can also change the K setting, so you can simulate dawn to dusk. I'm sure that in the future the price will come down and there will be even high output units. This lamp is just a start in new forms of reef lighting. -- Boomer If You See Me Running You Better Catch-Up Former US Army Bomb Technician (EOD) Member; IABTI, NATEODA, WEODF, ISEE & IPS Want to talk chemistry ? Ohh, I forgot. Please name me any light bulb or lighting system in this hobby that was
tested with results before it hit the market -- Boomer If You See Me Running You Better Catch-Up Former US Army Bomb Technician (EOD) Member; IABTI, NATEODA, WEODF, ISEE & IPS Want to talk chemistry ? I was not critisising the equip. in any way, just admiring the new development. The cost frightened me, that is all !! U.S. products at $ 100 tend to be priced at £ 100, when they hit the U.K., unfortunately, which is ridiculous. I think the development, and settings variability is fantastic. If Wayne is a retailer, you would think he would welcome new products, as a chance for more profit. Has anyone on the Group visited his premises ? Regards, Fishnut. |

I do welcome new products that are good. As far as
lighting goes, there's not much profit :-) Wayne Sallee Wayne's Pets wrote on 8/19/2006 4:26 PM: On Fri, 18 Aug 2006 13:32:37 -0500, "Boomer" wrote: Fishhut You need to look at in a different frame of "light" :-) Pricey, yes but much more cost effective in the long run if you are planning on keeping a reef tanks for some time. .
