Metal Cabinet as Aquarium Stand
Questions:
A) I have 2 metal file cabinets and I would like to know if they are suitable as stands for a 55 gallon tank. Their dimensions are 2ft (L) x 2ft (W) x 3ft (H). B) In general, how much weight can metal drawers support before they break? Much more than the weight of the heaviest aquariums? Thank you. |

They're not designed to hold that much weight. They may crumple and you'll have one hellacious mess on the floor, not to mention dead fish. -- KL.... Frugal ponding since 1995. I agree with the other poster. As a rule of thumb, figure 10
lbs/gallon (unless you're doing lots of rockwork or somesuch), which put you at 550#. 275# on a file cabinet sounds scary. You can knock together a strong stand out of 2x4s pretty cheaply and it's even easy enough to make it look good. redbrickhat wrote: Questions: A) I have 2 metal file cabinets and I would like to know if they are suitable as stands for a 55 gallon tank.
