The pic is a close-up of a cave in my tank. Is the red stuff Sponge? Near
the center of the pic is some spongy looking white stuff---please let me
know what it is. What are the white strands that look like roots?
thanks again..............

Thanks for the "Sponge" ID--

Here are two more funky things I found. Check `em out and educate me if
you`ve got the patience :)

The first photo doesnt do justice: it looks like an ultra shiny black ball.

You gotta get a better camera! Anyway, this thing looks like a filter feeder I
have in my tank. Mine is about 1.25" long and is firmly attached to a piece of
my live rock. The only way you know it's alive is that it raises up about 1/8"
when it's feeding (which is most of the time). When touched, it rapidly glues
itself to the rock. I think it's some sort of limpet.

Heh Heh----yeah that would be nice. Actually mine is not SO bad. Its just
that those pics were blown-up many times. The actual size of that stuff is
really small.

Red stuff does appear to be sponge. White stringy stuff could be baby
featherduster worm tubes

The shiny black ball should be Valonia, a form of macro-algae also known as
Sailor's Eyeball. Do NOT burst it.

Can't figure out what the other one is
