Danios

All the books I have describe Danios as tropical fish, but all the pet shops
here sell them as cold water fish. What's going on?

They are indeed tropical fish. your LFS must have mistaken them with
white cloud minnows, which are more suited to 18-21 degree temp. range.
Brachydanio spp. hail from the South Asian area which falls in the
tropics.

No we bought white cloud minnows and zebra danios, both which we put in with
our fish, a couple died, but others are doing fine. Maybe they're just not
too fussed.

Thanks

danios can adapt to all sorts of conditions
I keep them coldwater all year around here
perfect fish for large labs, and a favourite guinea pig of genetics people
throw some questions at google
more data on zebra danios on the web than any other fishy I'd imagine
:)

You need to goto
bionet.organisms.zebrafish
Ask 'Christian Lawrence'
danios are something he seems to know
or just google him
22 degC is alright for most danios tho
and mine get colder than that zebs/leps/tiger/giant
