Bought it approx 1 year ago. It has turned brown and grown considerably, but
has not grown any new tentacles. As a result, it is huge but ony the
origanal tentacles. It still eats well and moves around the tank. Could this
be related to captivity? Any ideas?

What color do you expect it to be? bleached white?

Cnidarians that host algae will acquire the color of that algae. They are
clear or white...
As for the tentacles, it doesn't know its captive, if the need for new
tentacles arise they will grow new ones. Apparently your anemone's algae
have developed a diverse light spectrum affinity, thus the brown color.
The sole presence of color in your anemone reflects good health, maybe not
the one you like but there is no easy way to change the color. Try feeding
it with shrimp or colorful fish. It may work. Color enhancing food used in
its clown may also work, they will feed your anemone.
The color is not retained in the anemone's flesh but passed down to its
algae who uses it when synthesizing food, it may also rest in the algae's
tissue.

What color was it when you got it?

To clarify,
The issue is the growth with no new tentacals.
And it was bleached white with magenta tips when purchased...turning brown
only indicates a return good health.

I have a similar problem with a bubble anemone. I look at old pics when
I got it, and it just doesn't compare to my current specimen. I have to
assume that there is something wrong with my water quality, and I've
been working hard to clean it up. The rest of my anemones are doing
fine/great.

The bubble has grown considerably and is doing better under 250 watt MH
lights that I bought a few weeks ago. Somehow the water seems toxic to
it's tentacles.
