importance of tank frame?

How important is the plastic frame on an All-Glass tank, the modern kind
with good silicone seals?

I had a small fire in my tank hood, and part of the frame melted, in
spots both on the top frame & bottom, on one end. I'm not sure how the
structural integrity of my tank is affected. I've only had it half-full
since then.

Thanks,

B

It has no structural importance, they are there to protect the glass
and in case of chippings and you in case of sharp edges.

If the frame is made of metal, they are normaly a part of the
struckture.
