Do you think anyone cares what China does to reef ecosystems ?
If it was our country (US) conservation groups would be up our asses.
This is sad...hunting with dynamite and cyanide ?

Keep buying those Chinese goods. The reefs go first, then us.

Agreed. Start by staying away from WalMart, the biggest buyer of
Chinese product.

Tell me please how do you stay away from Chineese products...

I can see them whenever I look around. Not only in Walmart
but in Target, Kohls, Sears, and many other stores...
Should we stay away from all our buying ?
Even most of aquarium products like filters, powerheads, fish food
or fish nets are made in China today... Maybe glass aquaria are not,
because they are probably to heavy to ship overseas, but I am
sure the black plastic frames on top and bottom of each tank are
made in China and purchased there by US tank manufacturers :-)

And what about American companies who moved their manufacturing
departments to China already ? The Company I work for has done this
many years ago... Should I recomend to my friends to not by products
I made ? I live in USA - that would hurt me much if people stop buying :-)

Not buying products made in China is shoting yourself in the foot.
American economy relays on China goods to much today so your
recomendation is totally not practical or even doable...
Chinese economy also relays on American economy - it works both ways!

Who do you work for ? Name a single American company not using
directly or indirectly Chineese goods and I'll understand your advice.
The chances are that even company YOU work for, if you produce
something, has manufacturing in China or uses products made in
China to create their own end-product...

The problem with American-Chinese economy relationship is way more
difficult to deal with than your simple aproach "dont buy at Walmart".
That is silly advice...

It's not just going on in China. It's going on in a lot of
areas. Even in Florida some companies use chemicals to
catch fish, and unfortunately it's even legal (though it's
not cyanide, but qualdine[I'm too tired to look up the
spelling]) that is used.

Quinaldine

A colourless liquid used to anaesthetise fish prior to examination or
surgery. It is also sometimes used to catch wild fish, but may be harmful to
the environment. The chemical is the condensation product of aldehyde and
aniline.
