sick dragonette
My red scooter "blenny" is ill. Nothing visible amiss, but has rapid
breathing and is VERY lethargic. Lethargic enough that he is actually letting 'pods crawl on his snout. I'm stumped. Water quality is fine, every other animal in the tank seems fine. Any ideas? |

There are enough pods in the tank that at the moment, there are actually pods crawling ON him. I don't think food availability is the issue. In any case, this is one of those tank raised ones (bought him at DEATHCO - YAH, I KNOW...) that is willing to eat frozen foods. Had him 8 months - he seemed to be eating well enough. I think it's something else. |

I think it's something else. Never mind. Too late. He's gone. Never seen anything like this - very rapid. Took less than three hours from onset of symptoms (at least the ones I saw - namely the lethargy and rapid breathing) to death. First thought was maybe an ammonia spike had burned his gills? - tested for ammonia, and found nada. Like I said, I don't think it was starvation. He was eating. Observed him eating a recently as this morning. Oh well... At least a new one is not that expensive. I think I'll opt for a mandarin instead this time. (had one before - was in the tank with the red scooter at the same time. One morning I awoke to discover something had bitten/chewed a hole in the side of the mandarin... he lived for three days with the hole before he expired) Or maybe this is the universes way of telling me I shold not have dragonettes... |

I have gone through 2 of them myself. Lots of pods and food. Would
even eat frozen foods......and they still died. I kept on in a fuge loaded with pods and it lasted about 6 months. Certainly long enough that I never considered him a problem risk. The other wa in a tank I have had a mandarin in for over a year now, that is virutally nonthing but pods, chaeto and live rock, with very little space to evens wim, and my mandarin is doing just great there and is a happy camper, and so was this little guy, but then like yours and my other one, started to loose weight, and then died.....Mine also got lethargic. Don't always believe them when they say something is
tank raised. And even if it is tank raised, they may have subjected it to coper and other harmful chemicals.
