Online live rock

Hi everyone,

I've been out of the hobby for a couple of years now and I'm setting
up a 200 gallon tank. Its going to need a bunch of live rock, and I'm
probably going to have to mail order it because I live in a small,
isolated town without a LFS. Who are the reputable dealers in live
rock nowadays? I remember having good luck with Jeff's Exotic Fish a
few years back. How about drs. foster and smith? I have been
impressed with their dry goods orders.

Thanks-
Ryan Lenz

Sorry I can't help with the live rock but am interested in the weight of
your 200g tank. Do you have it on a basement floor or have you reinforced
the regular flooring?

Hi,
I am a relative newbie , 6+ months into my first Reef Tank. I have been
pretty successful so far, and I`m pretty sure it`s because I lucked out with
some great, cheap rock. I got it for 2.19 a pound on eBay. He was an East
coast Shipper, so 2nd day shipping was affordable to me. 80 lbs. cost me
about $300 total with shipping.
Heaps of starfish, Limpets, sponges, snails, macro-algae, etc. Have grown
out of the rock.
I also used some of that "Bio-spira" bacteria stuff and I think it prevented
some organisms from dying off the rock.
This seller has lots of very positive feedback, and I couldnt be happier
with his product.
Link is below----good luck.

ups.com... Hi everyone,

Well, I neer really thought about that, to tell you the truth. Thats
because the tank is in a hospital, so I imagine they have extra beefy
flooring. I would estimate a 230 gallon tank to weigh in at about
2000 lbs or so, with some sand and rock in there. Keep in mind the
tank is 8 feet long, so if it were oriented perpendicular to the floor
joists, that would reduce the load on each individual joist
significantly.

Tristin--thanks for the offer to list that special deal on rock. I'd
certainly be interested!

=======================
Oh, because we did add an extra support under the floor for our two 55g
tanks. They cross the joists so the load is spread out along the one wall.
The heavy crossbeam is what we supported. No sagging so far.

I ordered 50 pounds from Foster & Smith,it was the Lalo stuff.I am
very impressed with it,and I already have noticed 4 polyps that have
popped up.No hitchikers thus far either. There is a company on Ebay
that sells uncured rock from Walt Smith,I might give them a try
next. The shipping is obviously killing me though,so if I can get
uncured a couple bucks cheaper I will put the unused 55 that I have
to good use. Please,if you get anything other than the Lalo, let me
know how it looks.

I used this guy to buy 30#:

He's in florida as am I and it showed up in 24 hours. I'd find somebody
close to you, so it doesn't rot in shipment.

Here's another in California:
