Stopping Herons and other would be snackers
Herons look at koi as an easy lunch unless you act to protect them.
Herons are territorial so they will feed in the same spot over and over. You can do serveral things to stop them. Using a decoy, spitter, nets, electric wire and best of all a pond palace will stop them. A decoy needs to move often and moving water is the best. A pond palace is combines most of these tactics. The pond palace has a hard palstic covering that has spawning mats, small openings for the smaller fish and a large opening that even the largest koi can hide in. The top can be used to hold potted plants. The super strong bubbles distrub the water and makes it impossible for herons to see their prey. You can see more about how to keep herons away at a href=http:// www.richdeer3pondsupplies.com/site/page/904982http://www.richdeer3pondsupplies.com/site/page/904982/a |

The heron stands there still as death until the fish come out of hiding, then gets them. The top can be used to hold potted plants. The only thing that works with herons, Kingfishers, large bullfrogs and snappers is a nice inexpensive net from ACE or similar store. -- RM.... Frugal ponding since 1995. rec.ponder since late 1996.
