First gold fish tank
Hi, I'm thinking about trying a tank with gold fish in it for the first
time. I dont want to buy some gigantic aquarium or anything, I was thinking about trying to find something acrylic in the 10 to 20 gallon range. Would this be a good enviroment for goldfish? How about fancy goldfish or koi? What kind filtration system should I be looking at? I've heard that goldfish produce a lot of waste so I want to make sure I get a good filter in place. Is an undergravel filter adequate? How about one of those biowheel under the hood things? What kind of fish gravel should I be looking at? Should I get a sucker fish to put in there with them? I want to make sure I get a setup that can meet the needs of the fish and that they wont outgrow. Any information would be great thanks. |

Bigger is best with goldies. Some of the ornamentlas canbe done ok in
a decent sized tank, but make sure yu have a larger than normal filter as they are messy compared to the tropical type fish......Defnately no koi, unless in a month or two yu have apoace to put them. They certainly are ot suited for aquarium confinement. Heck get 2 common 10 cent feeder comets, and when they outgrow it flush em and start again.......thats what most folks do, but really, comets do best in a large tank or outside and not over crowded, and cooler waters.... The small marble sized black moors or such do fair in a decent sized tank, and personally I would go with a 29 gal minimum and they can be hgad relatively cheap ready to go with filter etc, and once you decide yu canalways upgrade the filter if its insufficient. As to what filter, its all a personal choice but bigger is better just ilke with the tank.....A small pair of moors(Marble sized or so) can easily get 3 to 5 years of use out of a 29 gal tank until they get too the pint of needing more room. What you should do, newyguy, is buy yourself a nice big property about the size of a regular dam catchment area, make sure it is replete with non-toxic spring-fed streams, in an area where goldfish or koi or any other sort of carp are native, and go from there. Imprisoning any type of animals should be a criminal offense. Flushing them down the toxic sewer system is even worse. Cruelty to animals is no different from cruelty to any living creature, full stop. Only ****en weirdos get a buzz out of imprisoning free creatures and perving on them day in, day out. |

This post is great I got a real laugh out of it! =D I guess it is kind of
weird to put fish in a tank and stare at them I never really thought about it that way lol. Anyway as one of the fellas on here suggested I've been looking for upwards of a 30 gallon tank so they won't outgrow the thing. I'm still looking at filters and what not too.
