question about new tank setup

Sorry to be buggin you all. I just want to make sure I start things right
before I dive into setting up my new reef tank.

I read on garf.org about setting up a plenum with egg crates?? Anyone know
if this is a good idea?

My preferred substrate of choice will be sand, so I don't think a plenum
will be suitable for that.

thoughts?

A plenium is a wast of time and space.

Yes the best substrate is a fine grain calcium sand.
And the deeper the better. Just remember to put some
base rock on the glass, and put the sand around it,
and then stack the live rock on top of the base
rock. If you stack rock on the sand, you will
eventually have an avalanche.

A plenium is like making a two layer cake by taking
an empty cake pan and turning it upside down, and
then putting one layer cake on top of it, and then
putting icing around the whole thing. The cake is
still good, but not as good as a two layer cake.

I haven't heard that analogy before. :-)

That's because I just then came up with that analogy :-)

If you torture the data long enough, eventually it will confess
to anything.
