Scuba diving - West Maui, HI

Anybody knows nice places to do beginner-level scuba dives
of shore on the Maui island? Preferable North/West side...

Thanks

Do not have underwater camera yet!
Spent all my savings on scuba equipment ;-)

Ha! I know that feeling. I was looking at an SLR and underwater
enclosure. Way, way, outside of my budget.

You don't have to buy, necessarily. Just about all of the dive shops on
the Big Island rent underwater cameras.

A high-end example;
http://www.mauidiveshop.com/cameraRental.htm

Prices run $20 to $75/day, depending upon the quality of the gear.

Google Search: underwater camera rental hawaii
394,000 hits

Or, you can get underwater cases for common digital cameras on Ebay.
If you've got a camera already, and you aren't planning on going deep, it
might be an inexpensive ($40-$50) option....

http://search.ebay.com/search/search...40&_trksid=m37
&satitle=underwater+camera+case&category0=

The case option distorts images a lot more than dedicated gear, though.
I'd rent dedicated underwater gear, if I were the one to choose.

DaveZ

Not sure where to go scuba diving on Maui but I can tell you if you've never
been there it's a beautiful island!! I remember when we were there we were
driving by the ocean and I looked up and saw a rainbow right above it. Wow,
what a beautiful sight!! Anyways enjoy your trip Pszemol.

Thanks Susan, I have been to Maui two times already, this will be third trip.
First one with scuba open water certification, so this time it should be
much more interesting ;-)

I remember snorkeling in some National Reserve Park in the West/Nort corner
of an island, forgot the name... I was looking for maybe something little
deeper this time - snorkel limits you to really shalow water, scuba is different.

Looked online for diving spots and found this map:

Not much on the West side of Maui...
I should pay more attention when picking a hotel next time :-(
