Sick comet - what is this growth ?

Hi,

I have two comets in a 4 foot tank and one has had this growth on the
head for about a year now and it's slowly getting worse. You can see
pics he-

http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/6/...9/DSCF0053.JPG

I've tried Myxazin and another general antibacterial, I've added salt
to 3% and I've tried increasing the temps to 25 degrees C for a few
weeks. Nothing at all seems to make any difference.

The fish isn't showing any signs of distress, but I can see this thing
eventually killing it unless I can resolve it before it takes over the
whole fish.

The water quality is generally excellent, pH, Ammonia & Nitrites. The
Nitrates have historically not been so great, but not dangerous
levels. The other comet in the tank seems fine.

Can anyone suggest anything please ?

Many many thanks in advance.

Kev.

This appears to be a tumor (based on the second pic). Unfortunately
there is little you can do but keep excellent aquarium parameters.

I would give medicated baths a chance on the outside hope they may
work (or if this is something else such as a virulent fungus or
Flexibacteria). What I would use is Potassium Permanganate in a 30
minute bath at double recommended tank strength. Methylene Blue can
also be used, but SEPERATELY.
For more information about these medications, I recommend this
article:
http://www.americanaquariumproducts....dication3.html
http://www.americanaquariumproducts....edication.html

Also I would not raise your tank temperature for this as this can
worsen Flexibacteria (Columnaris), and even though I think it is a
tumor, this is a possible diagnosis. See this article:
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Columnaris.html

Keep your water parameters here for Comets:
*Ammonia/nitrites- 0
*Nitrates - under 50 ppm
*pH- stable
*GH/ KH- at least 100/50 ppm respectively

I asked you to explain what it is because I don't know.
I have NEVER claimed to know everything about fish, never once!
Sheesh, can't ask you a simple question.
I "thought" you were an expert in Goldfish. I was obviuosly mistaken.
And by the way, this nonsense ** They still think by BAITING,
harassing, belittling, slandering and in
general trolling those they want to leave the groups, they'll drive
them
off. This same technique didn't work before but she though she'd give
in
another try anyway.**

Is just that. Nonsense. I am not "baiting you". I asked a very simple
question.
Of course I could have looked it up myself. However, that wouldn't
answer anyone reading your post that didn't know what it was.
I thought that if you gave an explanation of what it was, maybe others
could learn as well.
Again, I was wrong about you.
Did you ever once take a second to think that maybe this person who
you claim is "my friend and emailed you about some plot" is your old
buddy Roy trying to start trouble.
Think about it.

I have never heard of carp pox and consider myself an advanced amateur
ichthyologist. I also want to know!

There is no need to ask a simple question when you can Google as well as
anyone else if you want, as you said, "detailed information."
