YoYo loach & skunk botia
I have 2 YoYo loaches in one tank, and 3
skunk botia in another tank. The tanks are 20 gallon longs. I'm contemplating replacing the two tanks with one larger tank, and wonder if the two species would get along. Thanks - Gail |

Thanks - Gail I know it's not what you asked, but I recently added some Clowns to some Yoyos. I was very surprised to see them all schooling together the other day. All six were acting like they were one big happy group. |

Thanks - Gail Hi Gail. I've read that the Skunks are "aggressive" - "semi-aggressive" - to "peaceful". So just a general search came up with even more questions. Go figure! lol When you get so many different opinion on behavior or attitude towards tanks mates that are not other skunks, I tend to think a couple things. Either people are not housing them properly and they're cranky. They have individual personalites (many fish are like this). Or the definition of "aggressive" varied per person making the description. For example, Angelfish. Many people consider them aggressive fish. However, I don't at all. I think they're pretty peaceful cichlids. However, put them in a bad tank situation (too small, too crowded, trying to spawn sround tank mates, change of dominancy, etc.) and they get cranky. Somebody who doesn't the "why" that made them cranky may label them as "aggressive" fish, when in reality two were trying to pair off, or sparing for the alpha spot, etc. That doesn't make them mean. Now being that Skunks and YoYo's (aka Weather loach) are both in the loach family, I'd try it out. Just make sure there are enough caves, logs, etc for hiding places and making territories.Obviously, make sure all are getting enough to eat too. I've kept Clown loaches and weather loches together and never had any problems. They may eat the same things, but they didn't interact in the same circles. When out and about in the tank, the clowns pretty much ignored them unless there was food involved. Then the clowns would simply nudge the weather loach out of the way. The weather loach would move elsewhere. Hi Tynk - I have Otos in both tanks, as well as assorted Cories and even some C. habrosus in with the Skunks. All do fine with the more "aggressive" species. I observe the YoYos are rambunctuous rather than aggressive, and all are provided with nice hiding places. I suppose I will try it and see what happens, keeping the original tanks in reserve, just in case. Thanks - Gail |
