Bristle Worms (0/1)

I have an issue with FREE live rock that contained a FEW bristle
worms. It started out innocently enough with a few worms, now the
situation is a little out of control. I added a large aero crab,
which you can see in the pictures has now become the prey. I will be
making up some traps and get rid of as many in the future.

All new rock will now be sanitzed from the pet store and only
purchased from reputible places.

In the mean time are there any other Ideas out there on removeal of
these worms??

Traps. work fine,so do long tweezers..the worms really are not that
much of a problem, and they are good scavengers. They will in time
adjust their population to account for wastes in yur tank that they
feed on......Personally I would l;et em be........Sanitizing new rock
only kills off other much desireable hitch hikers., so in thel ong run
you are being counter productive on what may be very desireable
critters in and on your live rock.......Short of man made rock bristle
worms are a fact of life..Its the fact the bristle worms are not cute
and such that makes them suffer at the hands of those that think they
kill and eat everything they can get their so called teeth into but
even for a lot of huge brist5kle worms they co exist just fine with
most every typical tank inhabitant...try cutting back on the amount or
the times you feed, and in due time the populaton will adjust to suit
the availablity of what can be supported by what waste is in the
tank........

Bristle worms are beneficial. If you have an excess,
you can trap them with food in panty-hose. You
don't want to be trying to maintain a sterile
environment.

I would recommend that you purchase a book on reef
keeping.

What kind of setup do you have?

Also watch out. There is a worthless troll on this
board that is pretending to be other people. We just
filter him out so that we don't have to read his trash.

You mentioned something about a picture. This is a
non-bionary news group, so for pictures, just upload
them to a web site, and then post a link.

LIke I said don;t worry about the bristle worms, and they are easy to
trap if need be........I would haold off on spening bucks on a reef
book as there is some out thwere just not worth their ink. They do
however have some decent prices on a few at Books A MIllion and they
are much cheaper than what you will find at fish stores. Might I
suggest paying the reefcentral.com or creativereefling web based
forums a visit and there yu are free and more thanwelcome to post pics
and have answers and not get told what to do like in this group.

You'll be milestones ahead in a more up to date and modern web based
forum and not have to put up with allthjis trash that Peter Pan and
Wayne all like to get drug in here............Check out
Creativereefing.com its a laid back forum, and no one proclaims to be
a self appointed god like in here or at Reef Central. Who wants to
have to jump through a bunch of hoops and ring a lot of bells just to
post a pic.we post pics allthe time simply by "clicking on the add
image to post" and hit send.......much better thanon USENET in a
barbaric and old text only format forum.............full of trash and
trolls like Wayne and Peter Pan. Here y really never know who yur
conversing with as they always nym shift, something thats not done on
web based forums......

The general consensus is, bristle worms are for the most part are
harmless and beneficial to your tank. If they get out of control, a good
clean up crew (Blue and Red Hermits)will rid them for you.
Books are always a good idea to give you some basic knowledge about
reefs, but they wont answer everything. Learn as much as you can, then
when you get stuck post a question in here or other forums and plenty of
people will reply.

There are members here who know a lot and members who know even more.
There is also a lot of bickering back and forth between members here.
Honestly I don't really know how it all got started but its
here.Sometimes you just need to weed through the bovine fecal matter to
find the right answer. Good luck with you tank.

Well, there's "flatworm exit". It works pretty well, but may kill other things
in your tank. Some of the wrasses eat worms as well. I have a six-line wrasse
that ate nothing but worms when I bought it. It's discovered Mysis shrimp now,
but maybe it's eating worms on the side. It's certainly fat enough. You might
try one of those.

I tried "flatworm exit" once. I will not do so again. I don't remember all the
reasons why, but I do remember that cleaning all the dead worms out of the tank
