Hoplo whiskers splitting?

I noticed today that one of my Hoplos whiskers are splitting at the
ends, they don't seem to be causing him any pain but wondered if
anyone else had encountered the same problem and what may be the
cause?

LIke split ends on human hair huh? LOL.......None of the ones I ever
had had split whiskers, but I suppose like anything else it is
possible to be from use, or maybe even water parameters, and it could
be perfectly natural. Just make sure your water parameters are where
they need to be. What kind of substrate is in the tank. Its possible
to fray whiskers etc on rough or sharp edged substrate. In saltwwater
fish its a problem with a lot of gill sifter feeders, if you use the
wrong substrate it cuts their gills.......and I know that barbels on
koi etc can get rubbed sore etc if substrate is unsuitbale for them,
so check your tank decorations and substrate also.
