I'm thinking of getting back into the hobby after a 20 year absence
Last tank I had was a store bought 55g size, rectangular, with bowed corners. It developed, after 2-3 years, about a 1" bow across the front. Scared the heck out of me. It was a fish only tank. This time I want a 90-110g tank, rectangular, acrylic with the bowed corners. How thick should the tank be so that it stays flat after years of use? I would like to buy it used. What's the going price/gal for a used tank? And the stand? and the hood? Can anyone recommend a web site so I can get a look at it? Want Don't want ___________________ _____________________ | | | | | | | | | | | |- How | | | | Thick? | | | | ( ) | | (_________________) |____________________| (Art Challenged :) Thanks everyone. |

All tanks bow to some extend be it glass or acrylic. You may be paranoid about it busting, but if you buy a decent name brand tank you do not have any worries, Buy some off brand piece of **** and take your chances. Lopok on your local or area Craigslist for used tanks. Tanks today are made in euro brace as well...........they eliminate most if not all bowing of any tank be it glass or acrylic but IMHO leave a lot to be desired when it comes to access in certain tank sizes. Are yu that far from a LFS that you cannot checkout a tank? Tis much better to plut your eyeballs on a tank or other things than relying on a description written up by some idiot..and then have some folks interpret what is being stated.and what is actually being said. Oceanic, AGA Perfecto are all name brands of tanks but all are glass. or check out glasscages.com as they make acrylic tanks and have lots of info on acrylic tanks on their site.. |

If you want an use tank, I'd got to ebay.com
But not to buy only the tank, but the whole setup. It'll be cheaper. "NoSpam" wrote in message ... What one considers in good or perfect shape is trash to another.CAVEAT EMPTOR..........Tanks are not all that expensive overall, but add shipping to that price on an Ebay tank and it soon passes out a new tank. Thnags are not really a bargain on ebay anymore, and lots of the crap is put out by JEBO which has to make thew worst crap there is..but fake the names so it looks like brand name stuff which it is not. Buy the tank local and buy a decent one it will be with you a long long time and you have a company to fall back on if it screws up. Oceanic and AGA both have 5 year warrantys.........whats an ebay tank have? "0" As for filters and pumps etc , thats pretty cheap also abnd again best bought local or from an online vendor such as BigAL's or Drs Foster and Smith.........better prices than what most stuff sells for on ebay and its new, has a warranty and its returnable without a problem too...........Its the live rock and corals that cost the most in money as will the lights, Once again buy from an online vendor.hello lights, The two docs place AH Supply, Big ALs Marine Depot etc etc.......... |

If you're buying new, I always say set your budget up front an buy as
big as you can afford. My first few tanks were used though and you can absolutely get a great buy that way. People who have a tank and don't want it REALLY want to get rid of them - the bigger the tank, the truer that is, so the better the deal is usually. YMMV. Check your town paper's classifieds as well as the classified magazines like Tradin Times that cover your locale. If you shop eBay, I'd still recommend shopping only around your area. And *of course* test fill any used tank *outside* when you get it home! Good luck. Simple - if you are getting a used tank hold out for an oceanic - they are
the thickest glass in the biz "off the shelf". reseal any used tank you buy though - regardless of how good it looks. All Glass makes good tanks too but nowhere near the quality of Oceanic. Avoid acrylic at all costs. Oceanic has a chart on their site giving thickness of glass along with all other dimensions of their tanks. They are the Rolls Royce of "off the shelf" tanks.
