CICLID QUESTION - PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have a 125 gallon tank of various Malawi cichlids.

Last night, I noticed a small cichlid (3 mm) looked like a Blue Cobalt,
hiding under a rock. He was the only one I saw. After staring at the tank,
I noticed worm like larvae swimming near the top of the tank, twirling like
little mosquitoe larvae. They had knobs on top like tadpoles.

I have never attempted to breed my cichlids. My question is, are these
twirling larvae cichlid larvae? or perhaps a parasitic infection? I have
turned off my powerheads to make the water less turbulent for these larvae
in the event they are cichlids. What should I do now? This all has just
sort of happened overnight?!?!

Please respond via email to

Thanks so much

As for the larvae thing, get a pic, then we can id it... My guess would be
bloodworm that's turned into larvae, and will soon have wings and fly away?

So how long, wide and does it have any apendages?
Color?

Google for aquatic bugs larvae and you may find some ideas... I've never
heard of ANY fish that develops in the way you mention, but I'm still
learnin' too...

Typical aquatic bugs are
daphnia
planaria
and I just found one a week ago in my tank, a freshwater anenome.. that was
cool... until I squished it...
