Help with krib breeding.
 

I have a pair of mature, very nicely colored Kribs that have successfully
bred once. Only once. About 15 mos ago. Any suggesstions to bring about the
blesed event again? I am running a 33FH tank with neons and head-tail lights
as dither fish, a few corys and a pleco. They do seem to have issues with
the pleco, who is no too big to be bullied out of the way by the Kribs. This
was not the case 15 mos ago. Has anyone ever had this problem?
The water has almost no nitrates, zero nitrite/ammonia, a hardness of
about 50. I do water changes of 8G every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on how much
my kids keep me running. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you solved the problem yourself, the pl*co is now too large for the
Kribs to feel secure while spawning. Either ditch the pl*c or get used to
not seeing any junior Kribs :)

OTH, you could always move the kribs to their own breeder tank for a while.

Here's my nearly exactly same scenario....
10g, M/F Kribs, 3 Kuhlis, 1 bristlenose - proven breeders, have 15fry now...
55g, M/F Kribs, 4 guppies, 3 cories, 2 clown loaches, 1 12" poop factory -
eggs, no fry...

Simple answer is, they have to be calm and not threatened at all to breed
successfully IMO... dither is ok, but a big pl*co around, can only stress
them, and any chance it gets, krib eggs have to taste better than algae....
Mine like them.. :-)

The best way to insure breeding is to give them a well planted tank with
lots of hiding places and bring the temperature up a bit. The pair I had
produced one litter after another and I finally got smart and lowered the
temp. It didn't stop the horny little bastrds completely but it made their
breeding intermittent.

I did manage to get them to breed successfully, almost as soon as the
bully pleco was taken out. The temp is up around 82-83 and the babies are
growing like weeds. I still haven't grown tired of saying "Oh, look. The
kribs had babies again!" But when I do, thanks for the tip on lowering the
temp down again.
