help on CO2
Hi, I've tried to produce A C02 kit. After ahow long should I see bubbles coming out of the airstone. I've had it in 4 hours and nothing comes out. Could it be yeast not being enough? Any advice would be appreciated. |

Most likely problem is leaks.
Second most likely is bad yeast or too hot water. To check for leaks submerge the entire generator under water and wait a long time to see if any bubble appears. i found aquarium silicone and hot glue were both bad, Liquid Nails works but only use on the outsed of the cap, it smells like it would be bad for fish. Dry the top after you peel off the old glues and then clean with alcohol. I've used Liquid Nails with a unit in use, and the stuff dries even while bubbles try to come out of it. I found it in my garage, and in Home Depot with caulks. It is a clear caulk-like nail substitute. Check your yeast first by looking at the date on the package. Then proof the yeast (just like for baking), take a cup of mildly warm water and add the 1/4 teaspoon of yeast and a pinch of sugar. Wait as the yeast dissolves and look for a fine foam to begin. Just a bit. Then you know it is good, pour that into the generator bottle. Last, be sure that if you used a check valve that it is in the correct direction, take it out, blow through it to be certain. And really last, if you have a bubble counter after the generator, which is highly recommended for several reasons, it is a source of that many more sites for leaks. Any advice would be appreciated. I found using home winemaking yeast produces better results than using baking yeast, it last longer and you can buy a tub for not very much at all. I also make wine and was tempted to put a gallon carboy on top ot the tank but thought it might be a bit heavy for the lid! and it might produce too much CO2. Brian |

Hi, It has been some times since i last used DIY CO2 (Swithed to canister as i find it too troublesome to whip up the mixture) so i might be wrong. CO2 may take as long as half a day before u see bubbles coming out, depending on your mixture. Try to check for leaks by placing soapy water around the joints if bubbles still did not appear. DIY CO2 has very low pressure so any loss would be significant. Anyway, i remember my airstone disintegrated into bits after a few weeks due to the CO2 and it made a mess of my tank. Using a flipper will be a much better idea for DIY CO2. Some Links from AQ forum, a great planted tank forum which i visit regularly, on DIY CO2: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/phpBB...ic.php?t=15544 http://www.aquaticquotient.com/phpBB...hlight=diy+co2 Hope it helps you ..... You may need to wait a little more, if it doesn't start within 6-12
hours there's something wrong. It could be a leak or something with the mixture. Here's another link that may be of interest to you: http://www.gpodio.com/diy_co2.asp Hope that helps Giancarlo Podio "Stefano" wrote in message ... Hi, I've tried to produce A C02 kit.
