A lot of us share your liking for civil interction and have made the
switch. It is sad to see a good group like this wasted by hostility.

Overflowing Pond!
In an river or a lake we call that flooding. Ponds too. Ours
overflows in big rains. We built in a place for it to do that by
having a part of the cement edge that is 1 1/2" lower than the...

New pond/koi owner questions
Chereena,
Ingrid is right about lava rocks (lots of surface to start with, soon
clogged). It is good that they are not in your pond. Keep us posted
as to how your veggie filter does once the...

New fish behavior
The big ones won't harm a 5" small one. They may, however, be hard to
catch! Even when Jim isolated several in a 'neck' in the pond, they
were hard to catch and promptly jumped out over a screen...

New pond/koi owner questions
Your top pond sounds as though it could serve as a veggie filter.
Does it have 10% the surface of the lower pond? That is the
recommended minimum for a veggie filter.
If you have good root systems...

re.Koi Food -
Gill,
I did not see any advocating catfish food for koi. I wish I had. I
will take a closer look at the ingredients of the food I have been
using when I start up in the spring.

We found the UV not useful once the fall cold comes...the water is the

as needed other times. It is easy to tell if it is needed...

We use a Tetra UV to kill the algae. Works fine and is not really
needed all season. It is much nicer for us than waiting for the algae
bloom to pass. Some would feel that it is better to...
