Put a large fish bag in there, and coax him into the

There will still be sponges growing on the hidden

Then it sounds like your goby is safe.

The brittle stars often hide during the day, and
come out at night when the plankton is out.

Serpent stars are hunters, and are less shy.

What I have called...

There really aught to be 3 classes of such similar
stars:
Brittle Star
Brittle Serpent (for lack of a better name)
Serpent Star

If it's a brittle, and not a serpent, then it's
probably not much risk, but brittle stars are quite
good at catching live brine shrimp to eat.

Yep, that's cyanobacteria.

It does not look like you have it real bad. A little
lowering of nutrients will take care of that. Have
you tried using phosphate remover.

I would not recommend using a canister filter
containing live rock and filter fiber. If you want
to take the guts out, then leave it gutless.

Yep that's right. And also limit nutrient input.

And when you have fast coral growth you have a form
of nutrient uptake.

I think it's easier to keep nitrates down in a reef
tank with corals than it is in a tank without
corals. The corals help take up the nitrates.

The reason that you don't want your carbon to grow
bacteria is because you are trying to get your
nitrates down.

You might also want to try a second nitrate test kit

For carbon, leave it in for at most a week. You can
always dry out the carbon and use it again. But what
you don't want is for your carbon to grow bacteria.
