Stupid beginner problems
WIth the holes in the plants and leaves outside in it sounds like the
water is nutrient deficient. Holes in leaves can be a sign that there
is a shortage of soluable potash. Yellowing can be a sign...

plants you have? It may not be the best measure, but I find myself
thinking of light...

Cheap Metal Halide lighting
what about the look to the owner of the aquarium. I wouldn't want my
tank looking like it was under security lights (HPS) in an industrial
park (even if the plants were huge).

of chopsticks that were lying around the house. I then took sewing
thread and made a mesh by stringing it all around the sticks....

Bacterial Bloom and Anacharis
I've used anacharis in plated tanks and as an 'excess nutrient sponge'
in others. one tank had the lights on whenever I remembered. If there
is any indirect light, it shouldn't take much of the tank...
