2x6 construction. aluminium box rails for the verticals. oak skins.
purchased raised panel doors from home depot.

don't route out the top rails. instead, make the side skins be taller and
overlap the plastic frame. looks the same, but lots stronger.

I covered my stand in oak plywood with some decorative trim. I put the
plywood about an 1 1/2" above the top 2x4 piece to provide a lip and my

tank
rests solidly on the 2x4. I would think that routering the 2x4 may
weaken
the top to much.
