If the container was used to store water for the previous owner, then I
highly doubt it is going to leech anything.
If it does, then the rock is contaminated already from the previous owner
storing his/her water in it (and their tank would have been dead already.
Most consumer plastic "Rubbermaid" types of trash cans are plenty inert
enough to do what you are doing. They are used all over the web for water
storage, refugiums, etc.. If there were such problems, then why are so many
successful with such a wide range of plastics....
