My first aquarium was 4ft*2ft*x2ft.
My 10 year old son had asked for some goldfish and I said no!
He secretly dag a monsterous holein the back yard and lined it with plastic.
He then begged, borrowed and bought all kinds of goldfish from everywhere
and filled it up with them.
The first thing I knew about it was when I came home from work and found 50
goldfish of all varieties in my bath tub because his pond had sprung a leak.
That prompted an emergency trip to the LFS where I bought the only large
aquarium they had available, along with a cannister filter.
When the aquarium arrived, the delivery guys asked me where they should put
it.. They only place I could think of was to temporarily put it on the new
24" high coffee table I had bought for the wife.
A decade later, it is still on the same coffee table.
The cannister filter won't fit under the table, so it is squashed into a
corner next to it and I break my back every time I clean it. It is too low
to store much junk under it and much too dificult to clean under.
However, my four year old son loves it. It is just the right height for
him. It is just high enough so he can't lift off the canopy without help -
otherwise they would be fed every five minutes.
It is now a tropical aquarium and he can name every species in it.
I also like to sit on the floor and watch the fishy antics.
In spite of that, I have always made certain that my tank stands for my
other aquariums are of sufficient height.

I'm starting to check out some of the stands available for aquariums and I
came across one that my wife and I both like, however, it's a little
shorter
than what I'm used to seeing. Normally most tank stands seem to be around
28-30" tall, however, this one here is only 24". The tank that's gonna go
on it is a 55G (48*12*21 tall). I know this is sort of a weird question,
but I'm wondering if anyone has every kept an aquarium at that height and
if
they have any comments.
Thanks,
Harry
P.S. The stand is made by Ameriwood, anyone heard of them? Good, bad
quality?
