No reason wood type mulch can not be used. I used it for years until I
got tired of having to get it out of my pond when the pond overflowed
or the stream came up.......so now I went to gravel and its not been a
problem of it floating off and making a mess or blowing out on the
water and also making a mess, I used to use the shredded cypress as it
holds together good and interlocks and is very fiberous so it blew
oout less, than typical pne bark and other hardwood muches did.
