Wow this has been some week in my so called pond life...

first my minnows spawned...

then a few of my tadpoles made it to Frog-hood!

Now tonight a Red-shouldered Hawk, common here in So Cal, came to pay
my pond a visit! I have seen Hawks circle way above before but never
come down so close for a look! I was sitting back by the bench near my
pond when I heard and saw all the tiny normal birds fly away, then out
of the sky swooped down the hawk right into the willow tree above my
pond! It was so cool! Now my only worry is he thinks this is lunch or
dinner-snack! Anyone ever have any Hawks come take Koi? Turtles? frogs?

They're not good fishers, and will "probably" not take your koi. otoh, it
happens, _and_ they would probably not have a problem with a turtle or frog
spotted on land! :-(

The good news is that I've rarely had a hawk visit more than once in a long
period. They don't keep coming back until your pond is empty the way a
heron would.
