My tank is even larger, it is 180 G. Cleaners won't do anything on their
own. The fish must come to them and stay still. My sailfin tang even changes
color when cleaned. Only then they will do the cleaning. Cowfish was never
cleaned 'cose she didn't come to cleaners.
What shrimps do you have L. amboinensis or L. debelius? Mine are
amboinensis.

tangs spotted them immediately after I've put them in the aquarium and
got their cleaning. After them in few days all fish except cowfish went
to cleaners few times a day. In a week all fish except cowfish were
cured.
Cowfish lost spots one month after all other fish. It has passed 3 months
from the time and I see no sign of ick in my aquarium.
Cleaner shrimps won't cure the ick but may help alot.

The white spots/ich are from stress how big is your tank, does the hippo
have enough space? it could be getting stressed due to space. I would
not treat with anything as your lfs says but rather look for the cause
of the stress to the fish

There's a couple of products that are "reef safe" ICH treatments but I
haven't had any luck with them at all. If you can catch him, quarantine
and freshwater dips is the way to go although the "ignore it" advice
wasn't all that unreasonable.
