Default Quiet yet effective skimmer

What will it cost you?

What I saw didn't look like the frothy foam they advertise. Of course
it only ran 4 days on a temporarily set up tank full of LR and corals,
but I really expected to see a vast difference.

Lower wattage is alway a plus. I don't think my Euro-reef pulls all
that much, but I'd have to look at the Sedra 5000 pump to see the numbers.

Do you have one? I saw one running at MACNA last month, and considering
all the hype, I wasn't impressed by what I observed.

No I don't have. But reading german forums it seems that everyone who has
one is impressed. Maybe they must be impressed regarding how much they payed
for it

This is the first time I've heard someone who saw it think it isn't
something. Can you elaborate why?
I'm saving money to buy it, but maybe you can say something that will save
me some cash.

Maybe this skimmer you've saw wasn't running enough time to clear acryilic
from it's protection? Royal-exclusive says that 2 weeks is usual time what
it takes for brand new skimmers to start operating at peak performance.
Thing that impresses me is air/water rate at low power consuption. For
example the smallest model 200 uses 40W of electricity and has 1000/3000 air
to water ratio (for aquaria to 1000 l)
Next model 250 uses only 45W of electricity and has 1500/4000 air to water
ratio (for aquaria to 2000 l)
Assuming the nubers are correct it is pretty impressive you must admit.

With so small energy consuption they don't generate much heat and are very
quiet (as I've heard).

I've used a number of skimmers now. I really like how well my Euro-Reef
skimmer runs, but my old Aqua C did a great job on the 55g. It had a very
low rumble to it.

In Europe good skimmers are H&S, they are needle wheel operated with one or
more eheim or aqua bee pumps. These skimmers are also twice cheaper than
bubble king.

Erik, do you have the rubber O-ring for the collection cup, or do you use
the thumbscrew to keep it in place? The O-ring makes it virtually silent
(Remora).

I'm looking for recommendations regarding quiet protein skimmers.

I have an Aqua C Remora Pro which isn't so bad but to have 2 of them
in the living room will drive me nuts.
Can anyone recommend one that is more quiet but still works well?

Thanks,
Erik
