Default Stable Iodine levels?

It probably is true that shrimp and some other critters need iodine to
help them mold, but I htink that the minute traces of it in a tank is
more than sufficint to allow them to molt. I have never ever added
iodine, yet all my shrimp molt, almost like they are on a set
schedule...I have to belive there is a t0n of stuff out there that
manufacturers portray to the point that its a must have and lots of
authors that go along with them for reasons unknown.........To be
honest, you cold probbaly go in any petstore and remove 99% of whats
there and never miss it......as its not needed. Thats one thing about
my friends place. He has a heap of tanks, pumps, filters, fish,
corals, lights etc, but when it comes to supplements, its mainly
kalkwasser, calcium and B-Ionic and perhaps one or two other items at
most. Same with feeds, Formula One pelleted, and the balance is store
made frozen.......There just is no need for 99% of whats out there
being marketed with extraordinary claims as to their purpose and need.

You don't need to add iodine to keep shrimp and crabs. Yes iodine comes
out of the water very quickly.

I just can't seem to get the Iodine to stabilize in my tank. I use Kent
salt and have tested freshly mixed water and found 0.0 ppm Iodine so I
figured I was starting behind the eight ball. However, I added Kent
Iodine supplements over a few days and got the levels up to 0.04 ppm or
so and though it good for at least a week. I tested after two days and
once again 0.0 ppm. Anyone else have this problem? I really love shrimp
and crabs in a tank and want to keep a stable (relatively normal) Iodine
level. The tank is freshly cycled with 50 lbs of live rock. Other water
parameters are fine. TIA -Andy
