I have raised the temp of my tank to 27c and my goldfish are now more
active than ever. Really thriving in warmer water. I also have a Siamese
Fighter and Silver Shark in my tank which also are thriving. Only problem
is The Goldies get to the food first..
==================================
GF don't *need* cooler water to live and thrive. But if they don't have a
winter "cool" period they may not breed reliably which I'm sure you are not
concerned about. Tropicals will do well at 78F which is a good compromise
if you really want to keep them together. But GF do get large and do
produce a lot of waste so you can't get lax on partial water changes. A
comet or Shubunkin GF can reach a length of 12" with good care. The fancies
such as Orandas and Lionheads can reach the same weight as a comet. These
things should be considered before adding GF to a tank.
Watch that Siamese fighter (Betta) because some of them will nip the fins of
other fish.
