At 6-7 inches you should be thinking of moving the plec up from
a 33g, not into one. He's already over half the tank width.

Oh dear. So when he reaches 10-12 incches I would need a tank
that is 20-24 inches wide? Perhaps by then the turtles will have
a new home and I won't have to buy a new tank. But at the moment,
I've got the 33 on hand and it's being planted/set-up.

Your plec can still turn around in a 12" wide tank. Plecs aren't
exactly active fish. Once he's 10-12", IMO a tank that's 18" wide
is reasonable. Your fish will be able to turn around easily
enough. 24" tanks are difficult to maintain - you practically
have to go swimming to gravel vac.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll keep all this in mind as the critter
grows. May end up having to build new habitat for the turtles, so the
75g will fall back to me in time.
