Default question regarding moving

a question for the group----
I am moving from North Carolina to California and am moving my three tanks.
I am trading all of the fish to the LFS for food etc. and moving the tanks
dry (of course). The question is in regard to the filters should I open them
here and try to dry them out? Should I keep water in them? It will probably
be at least 3 to 4 weeks before I get time to set everything back up and get
more stock.

I'd dry them out - bugs won't live that long.

If you're moving to one of the big cities, San Diego, Los Angeles, and
San Francisco all have aquarium societies where you can get both filter
bacteria and interesting livestock.
