I had the UGF in my 29g tank for about 3 or 4 years, and never could get
my nitrates down below 40ppm, and within a few days it was right back up
to 60ppm or more. This group recommended I ditch it, and later when I
was getting new carpeting installed I had to drain the tank and move it
out of the way.
At that point I pulled it out and siphoned the gravel well. Nitrates
actually became controllable. Btw, that was a FOWLR, and only became a
reef after that.

Good decision on the UGF. I had one for years, but once I pulled it out
the tank took a major turn for the better.
off-topic
Marc, when did you have UGF in your reef tank?
Which tank was it and when did you take it out? :-)
