Cheapest way: Buy a $9.99 kiddy pool at WW and a cheap black
dropcloth to
use as a liner. Keep liner in place with a fee rocks - instant pond for
under $15.00. ;-) It's also too shallow for a 6 yr old to drown in.

What's the black dropcloth please? Fabric, plastic, where purchased...

========================
A black plastic dropcloth (also comes clear) is used to cover furniture
when one paints the ceiling or walls in a room. They can be found for
under $5 in most Wal*Mart type stores including Home Depot's and Lowe's
(more expensive there). They are non-toxic and last for up to 5 years.

Thanks for that!

Here in northern Ontario the snow is still melting, but I'd like to try
a kiddy-pool pond this summer. Would you recommend placing it in the
shade to keep it cool, or in the sun for plant growth? I'd like to put
some of my water lettuce and other plants in it, maybe some hornwort -
might they be ok?

As to fish, which fish would you recommend I put in the kiddy-pond: my
zebra danios, platies or goldfish? The goldfish are pretty big, and I'm
worried they'll become cat or racoon snacks.

Deliberately cross-posted to rec.ponds.
