How many do you have? Female bettas can be put together, but if one of
them is already in the big bowl you want to put them all in, then take
it out, rearrange the rocks and plants then put them all back in, so
any established territory is destroyed.
Female bettas can be aggressive, just like the males, so people
recommend that if you are going to have a few of them, you should have
at least 6, so they can form a pecking order. Don't get 2, or else
you'll find one becomes the dominant one and the other becomes it's
beeyach and gets constantly picked on til it dies. Occasionally they
will fight and you might get some nipped fins sometimes.
Not sure if your bowl is big enough for 6, but I'd put some plants in -
the female bettas I had tended to swim around the top of the tank -
looked strange because I had 6 of them in a 30gal tank and it used to
really annoy me that they wouldn't make use of the entire tank! So the
point I'm making there is that you might like to have some floating
plants.
Good luck!
I got 9 new ones yesterday, and 1 that I have had for over a month, My
problem is in most cases pet stores keep them together if for nothing else
so people see you can put them in a community situation, however the place I
got them did not do that because they ordered them for me, held them for me,
and said he had no reason to put them in a tank, He ended up having them for
ten days, I ask him if he could order them a couple weeks back and he said
he was unable to find any, a few days later he came by them and got them for
me, I was checking back with him last week and he said he had them for a few
days, I ask if he could hold them for the week, he said fine I paid him, and
then I picked them up last night, all together I think he had them in his
store for 9-10 days.
I have the 1 blue female I have had for a month in the 40 long, I had a
divider in there w/ 5 gl blocked off for a male (temp) then one day I was
cleaning it and the divider got pushed down and they did not seem to mind
one another, they been in there together for about 3 weeks don't bother
going by one another much, but other then some flaring the first day they
been fine, however I am taking him out when I put the other females in
there. I did get some different rocks & plans when i picked up the females
so they would have some places to hide.
From what i understand when they are in groups, big water changes, moving
stuff in tank, adding or taking away tank mates, will all cause they to have
to decide who is top dog "betta" again and will start fighting for a few
days so once i get them in there i dont want to mess with things much. I may
get a few more plants but thats about it.
