Default Silly question about food

Moments before spontaneously combusting Mellie101 at
was heard opining:

Hello to everybody. Just a quick question to ask about 'floating
pellets' for goldfish. Does this not go against everything I have
ever read about feeding goldfish? Would this not encourage swim
bladder problems? I went to my local Petco and they were the only
pellets I could find. Very confused.

All my GF get pellets along with their other foods. I haven't had a floater
in years,

Going on Vacation soon for 2 weeks and was going to get an automatic
feeder for the 55g. Problem there is my Ryukin is suffering from what
I guess is constipation as she floats on and off.

If it's a deformed swim-bladder constipation has nothing to do with it. You
can start giving them orange sliced thinly. Remove uneaten portion after
several hours. This has a lot of fiber. They may also enjoy nibbling cukes
and zucchinis.

I starve one day a
week and have cut feeding down. So I thought that maybe I'll just get
my friend to come over a few times during my vacation and give them a
measured amount.

Yes, measure it before hand and HIDE the food containers. People tend to
feel sorry for your fish and give them only "a bit more" which usually is
100 times too much.

The problem I now have is my single fry. He will be
about 7-9 weeks old by then so think that he might be a bit young for
infrequent feeding. Was also worried about his water changes. The
55g will be done before we go away and my friend is going to take a
couple of gallons off and add some aged water in there. The Fluval
is so good that I have faith it will be ok for the 2 weeks. The
little 10g with the fry in will have a filter working by then but as
he is so small I am worried about her scooping him up.

If you'll be gone less than 3 or 4 weeks have her skip the water changes.

Feel like a
new mom. I suppose 5 weeks from now he is going to be a whole lot
bigger so am probably worrying prematurely.

Any help with this neuroticism greatly recieved
Mellie
