During this whole 2 week episode, I have been doing Nitrite and
Amonia tests, Initially there was a smalling nitrite build up,
nothing major, but nothing else. I have done water changes as a
precaution, and both nitrite and amonia tests were then fine.
As I see it, either my 5 remaining fish die, and a i start again,
or they don't and I start with 5 fish. I have a suspicion that
these problems were introduced into my very stable tank, by some
fish I bought from my local store abotu 8 weeks ago. Perhaps they
had desiese, and it's spread, gathering pace??

That's likely what happened. What an awful experience. I hope your
remaining fish make it.

down to 1 single fish now. The others died in the night. Have moved
him back to the new tank, but I don't fancy his chances... :-(

Have a knowledgeable collegue at work, who is a ex- fish scientist
(MAFF in the UK), he said take a couple fo dead fish into work, and will
look uner a microscope, see if it's a parasite infection.

The only thing I can hope to get from all this, is an answer...

Um... I'm mot sure I would have put the last fish into the newly cleaned
tank. You might want to return him to the quarantine tub since the
disease seems contagions.

I hope your friend figures something out. It's so sad, and I'm sorry
about all the fish you lost...
