Silly question about food

Hello to everybody. Just a quick question to ask about 'floating
pellets' for goldfish. Does this not go against everything I have ever
read about feeding goldfish? Would this not encourage swim bladder
problems? I went to my local Petco and they were the only pellets I
could find. Very confused.
Going on Vacation soon for 2 weeks and was going to get an automatic
feeder for the 55g. Problem there is my Ryukin is suffering from what
I guess is constipation as she floats on and off. I starve one day a
week and have cut feeding down. So I thought that maybe I'll just get
my friend to come over a few times during my vacation and give them a
measured amount. The problem I now have is my single fry. He will be
about 7-9 weeks old by then so think that he might be a bit young for
infrequent feeding. Was also worried about his water changes. The 55g
will be done before we go away and my friend is going to take a couple
of gallons off and add some aged water in there. The Fluval is so good
that I have faith it will be ok for the 2 weeks. The little 10g with
the fry in will have a filter working by then but as he is so small I
am worried about her scooping him up. Feel like a new mom. I suppose
5 weeks from now he is going to be a whole lot bigger so am probably
worrying prematurely.
Any help with this neuroticism greatly recieved
Mellie
If you get an automatic feeder and want the feeding to not happen at certain
times (fast (starve) once a week etc.) get a rondomatic like I just ordered.
The one problem with it is that it is expensive ($67 something plus shipping
like mine) but is seems to be totally customizable (even supposedly handles
liquid medications) and handles I think the biggest potential food loads
(i.e. if you have a very large tank with large fish it tends to at the very
least feed them enough) and you can leave one or more of the feeding session
bowls/compartments empty so you can fast (starve) fish one or more days/etc.
a week for example. The other automatic feeders tend to have very
restrictive feeding options (like the cheap daily double 2 which feeds only
twice a day at 12 hour intervals just like an analog (old style) clock (it
is kind of like a bucket on the hour arm/hand of one of those old analog
clocks, when the bucket reaches the bottom the fish food falls out (a
certain amount) via the force of gravity and therefore feeds your fish), the
nutramatic (cheap) is similar but more reliable and works more off of an
electronic timer than it does gears (as far as timing goes), the lazy Susan
is similar to the daily double but works horizontally but is much less
reliable unless you jimmy-rig it to have an air pump powered air hose to get
the food to actually fall through much more reliably so basically it tends
to barely work at all but is better than having nothing I guess, the others
I don't know much about but the nutramatic has less food capacity than the
daily double 2 but seems to work good. Good luck and later!
